APPARATUS

APPARATUS

Lots of people call it a "fire truck", but did you know that there are many kinds of fire apparatus?

Although almost all fire apparatus carries water and/or firefighters to the scene of a fire emergency, most are specialized for different kinds of incidents. Lakeside Fire and Rescue responds with different vehicles, depending on what is needed.

ENGINEs carry water, pumps, hoses, ladders, and of course firefighters. RESCUEs carry equipment for specialized rescue of victims in dangerous situations, like ropes, saws, tools, and medical equipment. BRUSH units carry a small amount of water and a pump, along with lightweight equipment for fighting remote brush fires. They are also equipped to drive over mountainous terrain. FIRE POLICE vehicles are used at the scene of emergencies to coordinate response, establish command areas, help with traffic flow, and shuttle personnel.
